Ecotaniarism

changing the way you eat for the lowest environmental impact

What?

Ecotarianism is a way of eating designed to think about the environmental impact of each ingredient.

You need to think about distance travelled by each product – and therefore greenhouse gasses used – energy and chemicals used in the process of making the product.

It’s not vegetarianism, but simply requires some research and thought – no strict rules.

How?

Avoid red meats – fish is best, followed by chicken and pork.

Eat locally-sourced food rather than food that has had to come from overseas.

Eat food that does not use a lot of energy to produce – organic foods might be best.

Eat foods that are in season, rather than those which have had to be chemically ripened, using potentially harmful chemicals.

Cut out sugar as the refining process uses a lot of energy.
